The helmet consists of an all-steel dome that features a rotating bellows visor in the front, as well as a median ridge that runs along the helmet’s centerline. The ridge serves to enhance the strength of the helmet, while also diverting blows down the side of the helmet instead of letting them strike squarely on the skull. The visor provides additional protection to a warrior’s face. The ridges in the visor improve its defensive capabilities, while several small cutout holes serve to improve the helmet’s ventilation, making it easier for a warrior to breathe while wearing the helmet.
This excellent replica is constructed of 18-gauge steel, which provides a perfect middle ground for both weight and protection. The helmet features an internal leather lining and is fully wearable, either for costume use or beyond. With its unique look and feel, this German Closed Bellows Helmet would make a great addition to any suit of German gothic armor or it would make a great individual display piece on it own.
