Original Item: Only one available. Here we have a very nice British P-1858 Indian Service Lancer’s Pistol, for use by the East Indian Government Native Troops. The pistol is based upon the British P-1856 and P-1858 service pistols, but is a .65 caliber smoothbore, rather than a .577 caliber rifled arm. The East India Government was formed after the British Raj began, replacing East India Company rule.

The pistol is definitely all British made with Proof Marks on the barrel. These included the CROWN / TP “Tower Proof”, as well as standard Birmingham production markings. The lock is marked 1867 / BIRMINGHAM, with a CROWN over E I G on the lock plate tail, for “East India Government”. The pistol retains its trapped swivel ramrod for use while mounted on a horse. It also has the standard lanyard ring on the butt, to keep it from being dropped.

The walnut stock on this example is very nice, with a bit of curl, and no major damage, just the usual service wear. It even has traces of a roundel cartouche on the left side forward of the lock screw. It has the standard all brass furniture, which has a lovely patina.

A very nice Victorian Era Indian Issue Percussion pistol, ready to display!
