Original Item: Only One Available. A hangover from Medieval times, the German Guilds, particularly in Saxony, would conduct annual parades through their various Cities one day each year. This tradition started with real Wartime Axes to show that these Artisans were ready to fight for their States. However, by the late 1700’s ceremonial Axes had been introduced, and this is just such an axe.
This axe measures 33 inches in overall length, with an engraved steel engraved axe head measuring 5 1/2″ with a 2″ cutting edge. Most interesting is the faux tiger striping of the wood haft, due to the lack or great cost of genuine Tiger figured wood at the time. This process required the stock maker to bind the stock with wax soaked cord and and conduct a controlled burn leaving this very attractive result.
The rear of the haft decorated with 13 brass rings dangling from a brass base. We do not know the significance of there being 13 rings. The bottom end of the haft culminates in a brass mounted spike.
