Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of an Imperial German EM/NCO Visor Cap (Schirmmütze), in the early 20th Century Dunkelblau (Dark Blue) color. The later M1907/1910 version would move to the Feldgrau (Fieldgray) that was seen mostly during the war. The cap constructed of dark blue wool, which was the standard color for all states except for Bavaria, which used their own blue color. It has Ponceaurot (poppy red) piping, and a Schwarz (black) velvet cap band, indicating issue to an Artillery Officer, per corps color reference materials. The front of the cap has a nice visor, which looks to be made of pressed leather.

There is no Tri-Color Reichskokarde on the front of the cap, but there is a state kokarde (cockade) in blue with a red cross on it, surrounded by red bullion, which has mostly fallen off. We believe this to be the colors of the Grand Duchy of Oldenberg, whose flag is blue with a red cross. The interior is lined with very nice burgundy silk or rayon, with a black oil cloth sweatband. There is no maker marking that we can see, but as an officer’s cap it was most likely bespoke, so often there wouldn’t have been one. Size is approximately a US 7 (56cm).
